Author: Steven Kudolis
System: GURPS
Category: Fantasy
Type: Hook
The adventuring group is helping to guard a caravan of travelers. A fortune teller is traveling in the caravan and offers to "read" one of the PCs future (this is the hook to lure the group to the next adventure). The fortune teller predicts death this night. A strange and sudden storm springs up and death and horror does indeed come to the caravan this night. Will the PCs survive? Will they unravel the mystery? Or will they soil their pants?

I like the set up, but the denouement leaves me high and dry... I don't know... The hand has a lot of potential. But just a failed spell... Can't think of any fixes or improvement right now...

This hook has some nice ideals and much potential if the creator/GM is willing to be more creative, offer more details and descriptions and possibly add a twist or two. As is, I find it to be somewhat lacking. I was going to offer some constructive criticism but found I’m rewriting the whole tale. So I have decided to comment on the only attack encounter for I feel this is the most important part of the tale.

I would have made the encounter with the attacking hands more comical, kind of like a bad B movie. Give the hands traits of their former masters or some of the personalities of the dead priest or how about a combination of both. Describe the hands in different degrees of decay from skeletal to grayish flesh with dripping blood. You could give the hands some form of sign language so they could communicate with each other or even cast simple spells. I feel the hands should try to kill the characters in their sleep or use surprise tactics first then openly attacking them as a last resort. For some insight watch the hand scene EVIL DEAD II or any episode of Adams Family with THING. Just to have the hands do a straight on attack seems to be a bit boring.

Bush and the Republicans were not protecting us on 9-11, and we aren't a lot safer now. We may be more afraid due to george bush, but are we safer? Being fearful does not necessarily make one safer. Fear can cause people to hide and cower. What do you think? What is he doing to us, and what is he doing to the world?
If ever there was ever a time in our nation's history that called for a change, this is it!
The more people that the government puts in jails, the safer we are told to think we are. The real terrorists are wherever they are, but they aren't living in a country with bars on the windows. We are.
