Had great fun with this one, with a few modifications. I had the Illithid lab set on Pharagos, with Gith herself as a slave there, on the verge of starting the thrall rebellion. Meanwhile, the Illithid himself was in a Githzerai body, in the Floating City, combing its libraries for the complete story of why his empire is doomed to fall (he had a vague prophecy, so leapt forward in time to learn more).

My players didn't realise it at the time, but they had to walk a fine line between catching the Illithid before he'd figured out the future of his people, and leaving Gith and her fellow rebels enough time alone in the lab to complete their final preparations to overthrow their master.
