Adventure Background

The Shakespear enters the planets orbit just as the Marines are awoken from their freezers. Contact with the colony is easily established and the go ahead for drop preparation is given. The CO learns that a group of renegade colonists have taken up residence on level 3 over at the processing station. Little do the Marines know, is that the renegades have already taken control of the entire station and have really locked the colonists in the processing station. The renegades have planed to set up a trap and eliminate the strike team. They have set up a sentry gun at one end of a corridor at the processing station and will ambush the marines from behind, forcing them towards the sentry guns until they are all eliminated, or forced into the room where the other colonists are held. The marines will then need to plan an escape and eliminate the renegade force, which are preparing the Shakespear to get off world.

Chapter 1

The commanding officer, strike team sergeant, and all crewmembers are first to awaken from the freezers as the Shakespear approaches LV-429. After making orbit the communications officer attempts to contact the colony for the Commanding Officer.

Adlib a conversation keeping in mind the following points:

  • Unidentified vessel. This is LV-429 New Utah Colony Base, please identify yourself and state your purpose.
  • We weren’t expecting any company contact for at least another 2 weeks. Anyway supplies are always welcome, especially when you’re a long way from home.
  • Do not mention renegade takeover. Instead tell them that the renegades have locked themselves in on level 3 of the processing station. They have not had any contact with them in over 3 days.
  • The landing pad has been cleared and is safe for the Shakespear to land. Transmitting beacon now. Welcome to New Utah.

After contact has been made, the other marines are awoken from the freezers.

    Script

It’s always hard to get out of the freezers. Its not the disorientation and fatigue that makes the job difficult but rather you sergeant’s booming voice that wakes you all.

Sergeant: Good Morning Marines, what you waiting for breakfast in bed. Its time to gear up and kick some colonist arses. Were Marines and we’re here to get a job done. There’s nothing like being a marine, we get the big bucks, we get the beautiful women, and we get travel the universe.

1: Hey Sarge after you speech do we get to hit the showers.

Sergeant: You bet Private and when you get out your gonna prepare all of us a hot freshly cooked meal.

    2: Whats on the menu.

    Sergeant: Cornbread.

3: Nothing like Cornbread before a fight.

1: Back home I used to get a little pussy before breakfast.

2: I hope to get a little too. The last one I had was as big as a house.

1: That’s because the last one you had was male.

3: Hey I’ve got a bad feeling about this mission.

    1: You always say that.

2: That’s OK Man. When we get back home without you, I’ll do your wife.

3: Hey I don’t mind. The closest thing I have to a wife is my dog.

2: I guess I just have to do your mother then.

Sergeant: That’s enough marines. Now hit the showers, they ain’t paying us by the hour.

    Chapter 2

The Shakespear’s pilots easily land the Recon vessel on the Landing Pad at New Utah without a hitch. When the marines exit the ship, fully geared up, they are greeted by Phil Tricken, the Colony Administrator (really the Renegade leader) and two other colonists (renegades) armed with pistols, Paul Linstar and Gordon Straton.

You step out of the landing bay and onto the colony landing pad surrounded by some members of your team. Coming towards you from the colony complex are three men. Two of the men carry pistols by their sides while an unarmed man walking slightly in front of the other two smiles as he outstretches his hand to greet you. “Welcome to New Utah. My name is Phil Tricken, colony administrator. These are my advisers/body guards Paul Linstar, and Gordon Straton. With these renegades out I’m a little worried to walk outside without some protection. I glad you’ve come, we’re not really prepared to deal with riots”

Get one of the players to make an Espionage roll (Difficulty - Easy). If they succeed they see a man hiding behind some equipment. He is one of the renegades and has a pistol aimed towards the marines. Phil has instructed him to shot into the group of marines in order to fool them that they are really the colonists and not the renegades. If the players see him they will have 3 rounds before he opens fire. By this time the marines can only get to medium range. The man will get away before the marines can get to him. Unless they disable him from long range.

    Chapter 3

The marines have been placed in the engineering bay while the commanding officer, with the players, go with the administrator to operations.

“You are taken through the complex to operations by the administrator and his two bodyguards which cover the corridor behind you. There is very little activity in the complex and you see very few people roaming the corridors. Looks like the renegades have got the colonists spooked. The administrator makes casual conversation with you as you make your way to operations. “The renegades have couped themselves up over at the processing station. We haven’t seen or made any contact with them for about 3 days now, but as you can see the colonists are all still keeping themselves locked up in their quarters. I‘m sure they’ll all be happy to hear that you’re here and hopefully things will soon be back to normal. When we get to ops I’ll show you were they’re holding up.” In ops Tricken wastes no time in bring up the blueprints you need to plan your move.

Note that the renegades first fire upon the marines (at X) when they proceed down the corridor. They then run around to where the sentry guns are, switch them on, unweld the door, and reweld it once through. They then proceed around and try to force the marines into the mess hall.

The players can escape by going through the Mess Hall through the quarters to where the door opens to the sentry gun (the one closest to the sentry guns) and can throw a grenade to disable it. It is a Difficulty Check - Medium to successful do so. Once out they must confront the 4 Renegades that are guarding them in the main corridor (the one that leads to the exit). (There are other possible ways to escape which will require some Adlib. Eg The players can keep throwing stuff into the corridor until the ammo runs out, they could use the air con shafts to get behind the sentry guns, etc)

Note : If the CO stays in the APC get Tricken and his bodyguards to accompany the CO in the APC. Once the marines have been pined down get Tricken to put a gun to the CO head or just disable him with a pistol whip to the back of the head.

    Chapter 4

Once the marines have escaped they will have to proceed to ops to eliminate the renegades. However when they get back they find that they are in the Shakespear prepping it to take off (the marines will find the CO in ops unconscious). The marines must fight their way into the recon vessel and eliminate all renegades. Tricken can be found with 2 men in the command centre. Place the renegades in the ship as you see fit.

    Renegades
