Talon Trails

As long as any can remember these certain paths allowed one to travel up to and over 20 extra miles a day by using them, depending on which trail one took. One moment one was deep along a small trail, the next he would find himself 20 or more miles farther down the path without realizing it. All was fine until recently. Reports came back that the magic is gone and normal trails only remain. All the Talon Trail's are actually homes of wizards of long past and now the protection that has been hiding them has finally failed. Will it release monsters of ages past or reveal magic of unknown worth?

Although the scenario can be played as a stand alone, it is probably best if it is added to an ongoing campaign as a side-track event. It's essentially a no-brainer, so specialised characters are not required. Although a loose time frame is used, it can be modified or ignored by the keeper to make for a more enjoyable half hour of play. For full effect it should ideally be played by one player, but no more than three. It s suited for the modern age, though it can be modified for the 1920s or 1890s. The setting is Newark, New Jersey although this can be changed to suit the individual keeper.

This adventure is intended for a modern-day or near-future setting. It involves the players' search for some escaped lab animals with potentially deadly consequences for the citizenry. It is based on an actual story. Some years ago a group of research animals escaped from a hurricane-damaged lab in Florida; in that instance several died. Although the text states a monetary figure in dollars, the GM can of course substitute whatever system works for his/her campaign.
